If you have always wanted to learn how to play guitar, then you've come to the right place!
Whether you are interested in blues, rock, jazz or folk, my aim is to help you understand basic music fundamentals and techniques which can be applied to any style.
Why Guitar?
For one thing, it is a lot more portable than a piano! Guitar is one of the most versatile and expressive instruments around - it has been used in all styles of music for hundreds of years. In fact, Ludwig von Beethoven called the guitar "a miniature orchestra in itself."
The guitar is also one of the simplest instruments to get started making music. You'll be playing complete songs in a very short period of time!

John Sterling has been teaching students of all ages for over 15 years. He earned a Masters of Art in Music from Washington State University with an emphasis in Jazz Studies and composition. He has a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Music from Cornish College of the Arts, Seattle, WA.
A jazz guitarist, he has played venues from Seattle to Fort Lauderdale. He currently performs in several jazz groups in Santa Cruz County, while focussing on building his teaching studio on Front Street in downtown Santa Cruz. |
